Note for Horsemen June 17, 2010

Note for Horsemen:

 

The NMRC met in public session yesterday, June 16, 2010.

The following action of interest to Horsemen was taken by the NMRC:

1. Tabled Racing at Raton’s request for 2011 licensure and related applications due to pending disciplinary hearing to be held on July 21, 2010.

2. Tabled ZIA Park’s request for race days for 2011. ZIA has requested 53 days to run from September 11 to December 6, 2011. (53 days approved for 2010)                             Approved July simulcast signal.

3. Approved Sunland Park’s application for racing for 2011 and its request for approval of July 2010 simulcast.

4. Sunray, approved 11th race for last 12 days of race meet. Also approved simulcast import for July  2010. Tabled request for race days. (April 22 to July 3    44 days.       46 days approved for 2010.)

5. Ruidoso Downs, tabled race days for 2011 (Ruidoso proposed 60 days, Memorial day to Labor day, 2011 same as 2010).. Tabled NOM blank approvals pending meeting with Horsemen.

 

6. DAA: Tabled request by DAA for Wayne Epsteen to serve as head of security in barn area pending further discussion between DAA and Alb. Committee. Tabled race day application for 2011. DAA has applied  to run 43 days beginning in mid March through last weekend of May. Would pickup 11 days during state fair if state fair doesn’t put in for days. Total 54 days 2011. DAA would have to negotiate a change in dates with Sunray to fit days on calendar for 2011. Approved July 2010 simulcast. .

7. State Fair application. Tabled Fair's request for 17 race days to be run in September 2011 during state fair.

 

Decided to fine P. Valenzuela $1,500 and gave him 15 riding days off for actions at Sunray. Decided to fine Delano Lucero $400.00 with 1 day off for actions at Sunray in April. Card cancelled due to jocks' refusal to ride on April 24, 2010.

Discussed jock mount fee  increase and requested that jocks and Horsemen resolve issue by next NMRC meeting set for July 21, 2010. A 3 owner committee will meet with jocks in a phone conference during week of June 23 to  commence discussions.

Remember, new medication rules become effective on July 5, 2010. See previous blog entry on subject published below.

The commission agreed to table implementation of the helmet and vest rule until after the July 21, 2010 NMRC meeting.


The NMRC re-affirmed that maidens 6 and older are not eligible to run at NM tracks.
