Note for Horsemen re: Racing at Raton
Note for Horsemen
Yesterday, May 4, 2010 the New Mexico Gaming Control Board decided unanimously to rescind the gaming license that it had previously awarded to Racing at Ration LLP. The alleged reasons for the rescission of the license include the failure of Racing at Raton, LLP to submit evidence of an unconditional line of financing to do the project; the failure of Racing at Raton, LLP to complete and have open for operation its simulcast/gaming facility by May 1, 2010; the failure to file a timely amended application together with payment of fees with the Gaming Control Board; and the failure to properly deal with issues related to a previous partnership.
Simply put, this is a sad day for racing in New Mexico and a sad day for the folks who live in the Northeast portion of our state.
The NMRC will consider the rescission of the racing license at the upcoming May 19, 2010 meeting. Call NMRC at 505.222.0700 for information on time of the meeting. Hearing will take place at 4900 Alameda, NE, Albuquerque, NM.
What this means for Horsemen is that the 6th and final racetrack and casino licenses permitted under compact with the gaming tribes will go back out for application. Earliest date for a new race track would be about 2012.
Sincerely,
Pat Bingham, NMHA
