Sunland Park has Novel Approach to Add Organic Material to Racetrack
From April 22nd to the 24th, Sunland Park added 1400 tons of fine sand to the racing surface. On May 7th, Sunland Park also added Tiff Grass to the entirety of the racing surface, which included the chutes. The roots and the grass will be tilled back into the sand in the fall in order to supplement the organic level. This procedure is expected to be beneficial, as not only does it prevent erosion and wind loss of material, but is also expected to decrease the amount of bark that is normally imported from California in order to maintain the track’s organic balance.
Any questions about the racing surface can be directed to Sunland Park management by calling (575)-874-5200.
