Peppers Pride Runs Again

November 9th is the day to go to the races here in New Mexico. Zia Park will host the richest day of New Mexico racing, featuring a card of talented horses, including record holding mare Pepper's Pride. Joe Allen's Peppers Pride will run in the tenth race, the New Mexico Classic Cup for Fillies and Mares.

Pepper's Pride, trained by Joel Marr, has won each of her seventeen career starts. In her most recent, a Zia Park allowance race, she broke the record she held with such horses as Cigar and Mister Frisky to reestablish the record for consecutive wins by a thoroughbred. For the Cup, she has drawn the seventh post position, and will be ridden by her regular jockey, Carlos Madeira.

This may be the final opportunity to see Peppers Pride run at Zia Park. After possibly competing in a race at Sunland Park, the mare is expected to retire and to be bred in the spring.

November 9th will be an exciting day overall as the other ten races feature lucrative races that total $1,850,000 in purses:
In the $180,000 New Mexico Classic Cup Championship, the ninth race, Some Ghost comes off an allowance win over the Zia Park track. He has three wins from four 2008 starts, capped by two wins in $100,000 stakes races at Sunland Park.

The $140,000 New Mexico Classic Cup Championship for Colts and Geldings, the seventh race, shapes up as a contentious race featuring Road Runner Handicap winner Dixieland Chime and Don Juan Onate Handicap winner Skar.

In the $140,000 New Mexico Classic Cup Championship for Fillies, the sixth race, Jannaslilkicker tries for her fourth win from as many starts. Askmetodance has the stakes class with five wins from seven starts, including three wins in stakes races.

In the $140,000 New Mexico Classic Cup Juvenile for Colts and Geldings, the eighth race, Lefty Who should be favored to gain his third win from as many starts. He won the $115,000 Rio Grande Senor Futurity by more than five lengths at Ruidoso Downs this summer.

In the $140,000 New Mexico Classic Cup Juvenile for Fillies, the fifth race, Dream Kin tries for her third career win. She has been the odds-on favorite in each of her four starts.

In the $170,000 New Mexico Classic Cup Sprint Championship, the 11th race, it could be a wide-open run with Pony Express Stakes winner Romeos Wilson, Mr Cristo Stakes winner Frankenbean and Gulchrunssweet, coming off back-to-back wins.

In the Grade 1, $305,000 New Mexico Classic Futurity for quarter horses, the fourth race, owner R.D. Hubbard has an interest in five entrants, headed by The Sixy Side, winner of her latest two starts.

In the Grade 1, $148,000 New Mexico Classic Derby for quarter horses, the third race, Hottest Game In Town is the fastest qualifier and threatened the Zia Park 440-yard track record with his trial win in :21.055.

In the Grade 1, $170,000 New Mexico Classic Cup Quarter Horse Championship, the second race, champion Gotta Get is after his third-straight win when he meets 2006 All American Futurity runner-up Gun Battle and defending Quarer Horse Championship winner Luck N Ofive.

In the $140,000 New Mexico Classic Cup 870 Championship, the first race, Contradictions and Mr Frenchman are set for a rematch. They finished a nose apart when Contradictions beat Mr Frenchman the Zia 870 Championship at Ruidoso Downs.
