Post Race Clenbuterol Testing

The NMRC has decided to suspend the current penalty phase regarding post race testing for clenbuterol, This was done so that a proper blood test level can be determined. The NMRC will continue to test horses for clenbuterol levels. If the level is found to be excessive in a particular horse, the trainer will be called before the stewards. As with the use of any medication, please consult your veterinarian concerning dosage, withdrawal times and test level information.

All recent Clenbuterol levels that exceed the published threshold levels will be referred to the state of New Mexico's Attorney General's office for handling. The Horsemen are assured that the attorney General's office will deal with each case in a fair and expeditious manner.

If you have any questions, please contact Pat Bingham at the NMHA at 505 266 7056.

We thank the Horsemen who were present at the recent NMRC medication committee a meeting for their input and support of their fellow Horsemen.

Sincerely,

Pat Bingham

NMHA
